In a way you can say that we are all authors.
Authors of the book called life. It is up to us to decide what kind of book we are going to write. Some decides to go their own way. Others are influenced by structures in the society, we grow up trying to follow a certain outline depending on different factors.
Generalizing and stereotyping often takes us locked into a box of expectations. Going against those expectations is hard. It requires courage. Keeping up with expectations today might be even harder though. If you ask me we should get rid of the expectations and let people be who they want to be and do what they want to do. There is no need for judgement. The world will be a more interesting place if everyone writes their own book.
End of a chapter.
We have probably all heard the phrase about an ending of a chapter in life. It is a smart way to metaphorically encapsulate what it feels like when we move on from a certain time in our lives. The process of moving on can happen intentionally or unintentionally, and it can make us experience many various emotions.
Realise the shift.
I have recently realised that a chapter in my life is coming to an end, and the situation has intrigued me and made me want to explore it. Chapter is a period in our lives that we feel a bit comfortable with. It may be repetitive and feels, at that point, like normalcy. Labeling specific times as chapters is a form of analyzing, and it helps us store all of the activities and emotions that we have experienced during that period. The motivation for this post comes from my current experiences. I am almost at the end of a chapter of my book. It is related with finishing my studies at university, quitting my current job and moving out of the place I used to live.
Let go. Move on.
Sometimes it is incredibly hard to say goodbye to one chapter to make room for another one. It is a bit a sad, because you had the time of your life. You have made so many memories. It will always be a chapter in your book. It will be always a part of you. The people you met and the experiences you had, changed you and shaped you, into who you are now. Think of it that way – accept the emotions you feel when a chapter closes in our lives. Visualize that part as a small chapter in the big book that holds the story.
“Often when you think you’re at the end of something, you’re at the beginning of something else.” Fred Rogers
There will be times that you will think everything has finished, but I believe that it is only the beginning. In order for you to fly, you need to cut all the things that are holding you down. I Just love the thought that great things are coming. No matter what you are currently going through, there is so much to look forward to.
It is time to write a new chapter.
Consider everything that has happened up until this point as character development. Now build on that and write something new. Your ideas will generally be geared toward who you want to be, what you want to be doing, how you want to be living, and the things you want to have. For me it starts with learning a new language, giving myself a gap year, in which I will be able to travel and meet new people. Expand my horizons, practise the new language. Work on the blog and having some time for the further discovery of myself.
There is a wise saying, “Explore, Dream and Discover.” That’s what a successful life is really all about. It is a journey.
